Helpful Tips for Lemon Brownies

Parchment paper

If you want to easily remove the brownies from the pan, you can use parchment paper to line your pan. Then when the brownies have cooled, just lift them up by holding the edge of the parchment paper.

Zesting lemon

Make sure that when you peel your lemon, you only peel the yellow part of the lemon peel. If you get a white color of the zest, it will produce a bitter smell.

mixer

Having a hand or stand mixer is important. You’ll find that it really helps cream your butter and sugar together nicely. It also speeds up the mixing process.

Variations on the Lemon Brownie Recipe

Homemade Lemon Brownies.

White chocolate chips

Stir about ⅓ cup white chocolate chips into the brownie batter. This will give your lemon brownies a studded chocolate twist that is delicious.

Glaze topping

You don’t have to add the lemon glaze on top. I personally love the lemon glaze it helps add texture but the brownie has a bolder lemon flavor.

Frosting

You can easily whip up or buy your favorite frosting instead of the glass topping. I think a vanilla frosting would taste delicious spread over brownies.

Lemon Brownie FAQs

Homemade Lemon Brownies.

Is it better to brown with butter or oil?

Butter will give your brownies a more cake-like texture. Where the oil will be a light and soft fudge-like brownie. So depending on the recipe you will see variations in ingredients.

Do the brownies go on the top or bottom rack?

When baking brownies in the oven you will want to use the middle rack of your oven. This will allow you to cook the top and bottom of the brownies evenly. If it’s not in the center, the bottom can burn if it’s too low in the oven, or vice versa if it’s on the top rack.

Can I freeze lemon brownies?

Yes you can freeze any brownies you don’t plan to eat right away. Just slice and place in an airtight container and refrigerate for 3-4 months. Then thaw on the counter when you want to eat for an hour. Or put it in the fridge and let it thaw overnight.
